He studied shakuhachi under his father, Kawamura Taizan. He is a Tozanryu Grand Instructor and lecturer. He won the Grand Prize Japanese Music Competition in Kumamoto and the Gold Prize at the Tozanryu National Honkyoku Competition. He is a member of Japanese Orchestra Mutsuno, The Shakuhachi 5, J-TRAD Ensemble MAHOROBA, and other groups.

Graduated Tokyo University of the Arts and completed its graduate school. Received the New Artist Award at the Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival in 2022. While focusing on classical performances, he also performs on the 25-string koto and premieres new pieces, and teaches the next generation of musicians at Tokyo University of the Arts, J. F. Oberlin University, and Gifu University.

After training at a hotel in Japan, he went to Europe and spent 15 years honing his skills at restaurants across France. In 1979, while serving as Grand Chef at the Parisian restaurant Le Bleu Donnais, he became the first Japanese to receive a Michelin star. After returning to Japan, he opened the French restaurant Four Grains and became its executive chef. In 2008, he also served as executive chef at the Toyako Summit in Hokkaido.

Her hobbies are diverse, including music, reading, watching anime, trains, art, sumo, and eating out. She is active in a variety of fields, including as a J-WAVE navigator, an MC on NHK FM, and a magazine columnist.
