This exhibition presents an immersive experience by digitizing "The Moon at Shinagawa," a representative painting by Kitagawa Utamaro, a world-renowned ukiyo-e artist who flourished in the mid-Edo period and is considered a leading figure in portraits of beautiful women. The painting has been transformed into ultra-high-definition digital data using the cutting-edge photography and image processing technology of the "Tsuzuri Project," a social contribution activity jointly conducted by Canon, a major precision equipment manufacturer, and the Kyoto Cultural Association, a specified non-profit organization. On a giant screen viewed from a tatami room spanning approximately 100 tatami mats, Narratives of one night in Edo, woven together by 20 vividly depicted figures, will be projected. The program traces the transformation of moon viewing in Edo, from quiet moon-viewing from a private room to a bustling moon-viewing event filled with the lights of food stalls on the coast and pleasure boats floating on the sea, where people become enthusiastic.

In the "Sun Lab (Sun Lab" space on the 3rd floor, works by Hiroshige Utagawa introduce the customs of waiting for the moon at that time. In the "Land Lab (Land Lab" space on the same floor, semi-transparent graphic sheets featuring each of the 20 people featured in Utamaro's "Shinagawa no Tsuki" featuring "20 Narratives (Narratives)" appearing in "Shinagawa Moon" will be displayed on a window. Additionally, panels will be exhibited about the activities of the "Tsuzuri Project" and the historical background of the USA and Freer Museum, which houses "Shinagawa no Tsuki."

"MoON MONTH - The Moon Waiting for the Moon -" is an event themed around "waiting for the moon," presented by MoN Takanawa in Co-organised by with TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY.

From MON., September 7th to SUN. October 4th, 2026, for 28 days, MoN Takanawa will host a variety of moon-themed art, food, music, and experiential programs at various locations. In a changing city, we await the unchanging moon. While inheriting the culture once cherished in this place, we will weave new Narratives and connect the culture to the next 100 years.
