WAIWAI STEEL BAND
This steelpan orchestra is led by steelpan player Yoichi Izawa. The steelpan, an instrument born in Trinidad and Tobago and made from oil drums, plays melodies, harmonies, and bass lines, while drums and percussion provide powerful beats. Formed in 2008, the orchestra has a flexible lineup, having collaborated with over 100 members to create music and stage performances.
They relaunched in 2020 with members who transcend generations and roots, pursuing a more solid sound. They create original songs in various styles, calling it "WAIWAI Music," and are disseminating it both domestically and internationally. They belong to the Playwright label and have released three works (1st album "TIME FOR PAN" 2014 / 2nd album CD & DVD "LAMP" 2016 / 3rd EP "Cleared for take of" 2020). In addition to performing at various music festivals and live shows throughout Japan, they have appeared on radio and television, in hall concerts, educational institutions, and children's theaters. In 2022, they performed as an invited band at the "Miami Carnival 2022" USA. They unleash their music, overflowing with exhilarating euphoria and dynamism, upon the world!
