The moonlight flickers on the night in Takanawa
On a spacious tatami mat area of approximately 100 tatami mats, we present our monthly program, "Living with the Seasons - 12 Months on Tatami." The theme for August is "Festival." Reflecting on the "Nijurokuya-machi" (26th Night Waiting) custom that once enlivened Takanawa, we will hold a workshop to create fantastical "moon-viewing lanterns" using the traditional "monkiri" (paper cutting) technique. Enjoy the flickering lights and excitement along with videos showcasing the energy of festivals in Eastern Japan and the savory summer treat, "mitarashi dango" (rice dumplings with sweet soy sauce glaze).
Living with the Seasons: 12 Months
In the past, the tatami mat was always at the heart of Japanese life. On the tatami, people read the seasonal breezes, savored seasonal foods, welcomed the gods, and conversed with their families. In this way, we have accumulated a flexible and rich wisdom of living our daily lives in harmony with the flow of nature. "Living with the Seasons" is a monthly Program that uses approximately 100 tatami space as its stage, allowing everyone to appreciate the four seasons together.
