A new rakugo experience combining authentic storytelling with a wide variety of performing arts.

MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives presents "Shibahamatei," a new rakugo (traditional Japanese storytelling) experience. Centered around authentic performances by accomplished entertainers, it combines a wide variety of performing arts, including music, manzai (comedy duo), magic, acrobatics, and vocal impersonations. Through roundtable discussions where performers talk about the background and methods of expression of their works, even first-timers can immerse themselves in the world of traditional storytelling. At "Shibahamatei," where the laughter and human drama of classical Japanese performing arts intersect with modern sensibilities, spend a memorable time that transcends national and cultural boundaries.

Performers

Nanafuku

In 1994, she joined a rōkyoku shamisen class. In 1995, she became a disciple of Tamagawa Fukutarō and worked as a shamisen player, before starting her career as a rōkyoku performer in 2001. In 2006, she changed her stage name to Nanafuku. She is a currently noteworthy rōkyoku performer who is active in a wide range of fields, including producing various rōkyoku Event and creating her own original rōkyoku pieces! https://7729.jp/

Matsunoya Hachiko

A professional entertainer, drummer, and male geisha. He studied mime under Hiroyasu Sasaki in 1994 and has won numerous awards both domestically and internationally. He later became an apprentice to the professional entertainer Nanako Sakuragawa and made his debut in the Asakusa geisha district in 2014. He travels around the geisha districts of Japan, making use of his mime career. In recent years, he has also joined the Rakugo Geijutsu Kyokai (Rakugo Arts Association) and is working hard with the motto of performing from private geisha houses to living rooms! https://matsunoya-hachikou.com/

Mami Sawamura

Born in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. A shamisen player. While being exposed to Kabuki, Rakugo, and Kodan, he encountered Rokyoku and was struck by the realization that "Rokyoku is the cry of humanity." He fell in love with the sound of Toyoko Sawamura's shamisen and became her apprentice in March 2019. He made his stage debut in June 2020.
